Cortical Créme Relaxer

Warnings and Directions

Congratulations on your choice of Sofnfree Cortical Créme Relaxer. Make sure you have read and fully understood these directions and warnings before you start, to avoid skin irritation, scalp burns, hair loss or eye injury.

Directions

Before starting, double check to see if everything you need is at hand

Step 1

For your comfort, we recommend applying a protective base, such as Sofnfree Hydrating Hairfood, to skin around the entire hairline, ears and nape of the neck.

Step 2

Wear protective gloves and cover shoulders with a towel or cape. Part your hair into four sections: from forehead to the nape (down the middle) and then across the head from ear to ear. You should have four equal sections.

Step 3

Set timer according to your hair type as indicated by the Strand Test and Time Charts. The application time must be included in the total processing time.

Step 4

Apply a generous amount of Relaxer to natural hair only avoiding the scalp and previously relaxed hair. Start applying at the nape of the neck, making small partings and apply relaxer generously, quickly and evenly. Work up towards the crown and then apply to front section, leaving the hairline until last. Do not rub into the scalp. Do not get relaxer into eyes or ears. If relaxer gets onto the skin, gently wipe off with a damp towel saturated with neutralising shampoo or rinse thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult a medical doctor. If relaxer burns scalp immediately after application, rinse off immediately and seek medical attention.

Step 5

Continue to apply relaxer until all hair is covered. Using a wide-toothed comb, gently comb the relaxer to the ends of the hair with short strokes. Put any relaxer that collects on the comb back onto the hair.

Step 6

Double check that you have evenly distributed all the Sofnfree Cortical Créme Relaxer. Using the back of a wide-toothed comb, you can gently smooth all the hair by using short, firm strokes and working from scalp to the ends. Continue this process until the complete time period is up. Check for straightness. If hair looks straight and does not return to its usual curl pattern when pushed towards the scalp, it is fully relaxed. Never leave relaxer on hair for longer than indicated on your time chart as per your strand test.

Step 7

Keeping your eyes closed, rinse scalp. Make sure relaxer Créme has been completely removed. Check that no traces of Sofnfree Cortical Créme Relaxer remain on the nape of your neck, hairline and/or scalp.

Step 8

Once you are certain that all the relaxer has been rinsed out, apply Sofnfree Conditioning Neutralising Shampoo with Colour Indicator to the hair and lather well. Check for traces of pink colour in the lather. Pink indicates that the relaxer has not been properly removed from the hair. Repeat process until lather appears white.

Step 9

Towel dry and gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb. For best results, condition, treat and style with your favourite products from the Sofnfree Aftercare range.

You should always:

  • Wait at least 6 weeks between relaxer applications
  • Be sure that braids or extensions have been removed at least 15 days before applying this relaxer
  • Wear protective gloves
  • Apply relaxer to new hair growth only
  • Use the correct relaxer strength for your hair type

Perform a strand test. Isolate a small section of hair and identify its texture. Apply a small amount of protective barrier Créme (Sofnfree Hydrating Hairfood Or Sofnfree Black Castor Oil Moisturising Hairfood ) to the scalp around the test section. Apply a small amount of Sofnfree Cortical Créme Relaxer to the re-growth section on this strand of hair. Spread evenly from root area to end. Leave on for time allocated to your hair type (see time chart). Check for straightness, scalp irritation or hair breakage. Apply a small amount of Sofnfree Conditioning Neutralising Shampoo and wipe away. If hair shows breakage or appears to be damaged, do not use product. If scalp irritation occurs, do not use product. If results are satisfactory, proceed with relaxer application. Do your best to not treat this strand of hair again so as to avoid breakage.
